Christies Clocks $91 Million Worth of Watches in 2010
Are classical timepieces the great investment in this still uncertain mercantile climate? Christies record-breaking $91 million worth of watch sales clocked (ahem) in 2010 shouts the resounding hell yes. The tip timpiece of the year during the famous firm was the unique Patek Philippe bullion chronograph Reference 1527 (above) manufactured in 1943 which sold for the record-breaking $5.7 million most likely to Pateks own museum during Christies in Geneva in May. Pateks ruled the roost, of course, accounting for the tip eight prices out of ten completed opposite the board, the upper 5 all topping $1 million apiece.
The peculiar male out was the $706,000 Daniel Vaucher one-off. The $91 million is the top annual total ever completed for watches during the global auction house, as well as beats all the others hands down. Christies watch auctions opposite the globe completed sell-through rates upon tip of 90% by value. So with such positive signs, why wait for the little fancy-ass auction to amass the collection? There are over 17,000 timepieces upon James to take the swing at, from the $1.28 million solid Patek to the $99 very old Minerva pocket watch as well as everything in between.
