Urwerk Champagne Supernova Watch (UR-110)

Another Rare Species emerges

Following the Urwerk White Shark (a limited edition take on the Urwerk UR-202), the Urwerk Champagne Supernova is a limited edition twist on Urwerks UR-110 Torpedo watch launched early this year. Like MB&Fs Horological Machines, Urwerks ultra-limited, super-pricey timepieces are of their own world and tend to foster love or hate by those who view them. I, for one, am still trying to warm up to these unique creations but I do not hesitate to give big props to Urwerk Chiefs Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei for their ability to create what they love while at the same time pushing the limits of horological design.

Anyway as to the UR-110 Champagne Supernova the radiant and very nice looking color comes from a coating of Zirconium Nitride on the bezel, which provides the distinctive pale gold hue that gives rise to the Champagne Supernova nickname. Zirconium Nitride is a high-performance ceramic coating that provides superb scratch, wear and corrosion resistance. As far as inspiration goes, I guess that Urwerk drew on one (or both, hehe) of the following: 1) a song by English rock band Oasis, written by guitarist Noel Gallagher (video here), 2) a supernova known as SN 2003fg (or SNLS-03D3bb by the Canada-France-Hawaii Supernova Legacy Survey) see Champagne Supernova Breaks Astronomical Rules, CBS News, 2006.     Ponzi Schemer Bernie Madoff and his wife’s Belongings Auctioned

    U.S. Marshalls Service on November 13th held an auction at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers, where Ruth Madoff’s 10.5 carat diamond ring brought in the big bucks. This was actually an auction of the belongings of Ponzi schemer Bernie Maddof. Mrs. Maddof’s diamond ring was sold for 550,000, while her diamond earrings went for over 100,000. Apart from these two jewels, other items belonging to Ruth Maddof were also sold, and they brought in a total of $2million. Bernie Maddof’s Rolex “Moon Phase” also went under the hammer for $67,500. A Steinway & Sons grand piano also brought in $42,000. The couple’s king-sized bed went for $2,250. Who bought the bed? Tally Wiener, the lawyer who helped liquidate Fairfield Sentry, a fund, which fed money into Madoff’s accounts before going under. He said he will offer the bed to Mrs. Madoff.     Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Eight Days Perpetual 16124SQ Watch Available On James List

    Back in 2007 Jaeger-LeCoultre expelled this Master Eight Days Perpetual calendar (ref. 16124SQ) watch - as well as it still looks beautiful today. With an original cost of about $100,000 , there have been (relative) deals to be found today. The skeletonized black 'frosted' transformation is amazing to demeanour at, but you'll have to forgive the pattern for creation we hunt the bit for all the report which we have available upon the dial. The transformation tone is essentially due to ruthenium, as well as there have been pure discs all over the dial. Set in the 41mm wide 18k pinkish bullion "Master" pick up case, the watch nicely mixes classical Jaeger-LeCoultre cultured with the visible seductiveness of the complicated style skeletonized movement. Legibility is maintained through use of bullion hands as well as hour markers which contrast with the gray alternative elements which have been great.
