Tom Ford looks: Pro-Hunter releases Steel & Gold Rolex GMT Master on JamesList

Without Pro-Hunter rattling the cage of Rolex nuts worldwide a few years ago, watch customization would not have gotten to the place it has today. Tweaking your Rolex has become de rigueur in certain wealthier circles (even if some people take it to the extremes), and that is a legacy that certainly can attributed to the British firm. Pro-Hunter are longtime clients here at JamesList, so we managed to get a word with Kamal regarding this exciting new piece along with some thoughts about the future Turns out that the watch has an interesting past.

James: What inspired this new take on GMT II?

Kamal: In fact it was Tom Ford. We designed this model for his stores world wide about 4 years ago. And it was to be named the Tom Ford Pro Hunter. At that time we were only producing steel Pro Hunters, but Tom Ford said, I want gold. On hindsight I wish I had paid more attention and bought some gold on the financial markets. Anyway, he loved the design, and it was approved and backed by his design and marketing team. But then his US lawyers got cold feet with Rolex customization. The project was shelved.

As luck would have it, I actually showed the final design to Magnus Thorud who is a fashion marketing guru. Since that day I would receive a phone call every 6 months, Kamal, whats up with the Tom Ford Pro Hunter, I cant get it out of my head Then finally in august 2011, Magus demands that I make one for him, and with the price of gold at record levels, I decided to go into production. Guess 4 years ago it was ahead of its time! , and it still seems to be today. Order books are full for the next few months. Thank you Tom.

James: What has been going on behind the scenes at Pro-Hunter lately?

Kamal: A lot. Have been travelling, trying to build up an exclusive retail network of agents who love the product. Its easy to sell something you love. So now we are represented in Capri, Milan, Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and talking to exclusive retailers in Zurich, Vegas, Moscow and St Barts.

James: What can we expect in the future?

Kamal: Its wide open. We are looking at special One of One Pro Hunters, also investigating exclusive collaborations with high profile companies to design a Pro Hunter line of accessories. On the coating side I think the exclusive Pro Hunter Stealth coating is the future.
