Another Glashutte Original watch that I was more than happy to play with this year was the new version of the Senator Perpetual Calendar watch. The movement inside the watch nor the name of this timepiece is new - but the new piece is a real gem. For 2011 the size of the watch as well as the design have been tweaked. For some reason GO didn't actually make the width easy to find, but as you can see on my wrist it is larger than some of its predecessors that were about 40mm wide. At least I think so or this would be a real trick on the eyes type of timepiece.

The Glashutte Original caliber 100-02 automatic perpetual calendar movement has seen a lot of life in GO watches. From sport to formal watches, this is one flexible design. It's strength lies in a clever perpetual calendar module that cleanly displays all the information in little windows. This relieves the wearer from having to sort through too many dials and hands. It also allows for a more purists style look with easy to read ha! nds for the time. On the dial you'll find the day, big date, moon phase indicator, month, and small round window that indicates the leap year (window is usually white, but red during leap years). Like I said, the movement is also an automatic which lends itself to a legible, practical daily wear. A lot of people have found happiness with watches using this GO movement. It has about 55 hours of power reserve.

The clean look of the case is maintained with a single crown. There are corrector pushers around the case to adjust all the functions. They should be placed near the windows of the functions so that you know what you are adjusting when you use them. The design of this watch is somewhere between sporty and formal. I don't know how GO achieved this look, but they did. Want proof it is a sport watch? They offer it on a rubber strap (as well as black alligator strap). glashutte Sen Perp Cal 100 02 25 05 04 Glashutte Original Senator Perpetual Calendar Watch Hands On

GO used a matte black dial with Roman numerals - another mix of sporty and classic. I love that the dial uses red gold hands which never appear to blend in with the dial. Even in lower light legibility is good. The case is in 18k red gold and looks great. I love the red gold and back combo with white markers. On the wrist the watch looks and feels good - a winner in my book. Price for this piece is 28,500 euros.
